Get Great Google Places Reviews Fast And Ethically

If you want to get positive reviews on your own Google Places Page, giving great acknowledgement is the fastest and most ethical way of getting positive reviews. It sounds obvious and simple – and its true. Since Google began showing Google Places Pages interspersed with local organic search results, these local search algorithms have become increasingly weighted to:

1) The rankings of the main website pointed to from the Google Places Page

2) The proximity of the business’ specific location to the center of the city or town name in the search query

3) Whether or not the owners have claimed their Google Places Page and the degree to which it is filled in to the maximum extent with details, up to ten photos and to a lesser extent videos

4) Reviews

Never before has simple, genuine acknowledgement of the people you know and work with been more valuable for their online visibility and search engine rankings. A crucial success factor in getting legitimate reviews is to first give them yourself on their Google Places Page and see how easy it is. Leave a two or three sentence review so you know the steps yourself and can show them.

Take A Moment And Think Of Someone You Work With Whose Work You Really Appreciate

Who comes to mind first when you’re asked this question? What is it about that person’s work you really appreciate? How could you better communicate that appreciation to them – and the world – with a review on their Google Places Page?

Take a couple minutes to write a two to three sentence review that summarizes what they’ve done that’s had a positive impact on you and/or others – and be sure to mention who you are qualifying your opinion recommending them.

The simplest way to give genuine praise and recognition is to tell people what impact they’ve had on you. Recall something they’ve said or done that’s made a lasting impression on you.

Studies Show Praise And Recognition Require Three Elements To Be Effective:

1) Make It Specific. The more specific you can be, the greater the value of what you give.

2) Personalize It by Using Their Name

3) Above All Else – Mean It! Your own sincerity is always your greatest asset for being heard.

It can be as simple as: “I liked that!” “I really appreciate…” or, “Thanks for the good job you’re doing on that!” Seeing comments in print can make them bigger than life. This type of perception clarification establishes reputations people live up to because they know their actions are perceived and appreciated.

To Find Their Google Places Page And Give The Review

Search for their business name in both Google Maps and the organic results. Enter into the Google search box: maps.google.com

If you find a listing here click the business name blue link to get to the Places Page. You can also enter the phone number as a way of locating their page. If you don’t find a listing next check Google Places by searching in the usual, organic search results.

One thing that can make finding the Google Places Page confusing is that Google Places is a subset of Google Maps. And while similar information about businesses are displayed with the red pin in both, the format the information is displayed is different depending upon if you are accessing it through Google Maps or Google Places which is more detailed. For example, look at how photos get squished or elongated clicking on Google Maps or the Google Places Pages. Google Maps listings are smaller, Google Places bigger and more detailed.

If you don’t find a listing in Google Maps, check Google Places by entering their name or business in the Google search box. When the Google search result loads, under the Google logo top left corner main menu, at the bottom of the list of search options click “More” and it will now show the “Places” option with the red pin. Click it.

This will show the Google Places Page listing and you want to click the red pin that’s an active link to get you to the Places Page. Once you have arrived at the more detailed, Google Places Page, Click the red “Write A Review” link.

If you have a Google account log in and are returned to the page for your review. If you don’t yet have a Google account its very simple and takes about a minute.

Very important that you click the star ratings and see them light up or the entry won’t save when you submit. Carefully note this is the number one cause of people thinking they have submitted a review, but the star rating wasn’t clicked and they need to go back in and do it again. Enter your review and submit – and its very important to then check it afterwards to be certain it is showing properly.

If it’s not showing the usual reason is the star rating system wasn’t clicked. Go back in and try it again. Send the person you gave the review a copy, tell them they were the person you thought of when you read this article and were asked the question, “Think of someone you work with whose work you really appreciate…” Ask them the same question – show them how easy it was to leave a review of them in writing on their Google Places Page – and encourage them to pass it on.

Tell People What They’re Doing Right.

It doesn’t cost a penny. It’s clearly one of the Non-Monetary Rewards people value most – and the GoogleBot now values more than ever before in search engine rankings for your Google Places Page.

Ask people you have worked with to be an honest witness of the results achieved together. Put into writing clarifying exactly what goals you have achieved working together and post it. The more specific they can be quantifying solutions and results the better.

Don’t Game The System

People reading these reviews will judge for themselves if they ring true and are relevant to their own needs. Some of the biggest ways people sniff that out is if they sound too promotional, are written with too many superlatives that just don’t match the usual person’s experience of this service or product, or if you see way too many people clicking that they “Found this review helpful” than any ordinary person would click if not told to do so.

If you suddenly find the number of Google Places Reviews on your site cut in half, that’s Google’s way of getting your attention something is wrong. Log into your Google Places Page and you may find the missing reviews are all still there and visible when you are logged in – its that Google is not displaying them all until whatever the problem is removed.

First, start deleting each element one at a time that might be the most likely cause of the problem – one at a time and save it.

Then log out, refresh your browser and look at Google’s display of your Google Places page to see if its fixed – displaying the same images you see when you are logged in. Many times, this will automatically return the display of the other reviews to the public view as soon as the problem element or photo is removed.

This is an automated downgrade effecting what Google displays regarding your place that is automatically removed once the problem element on the page is removed. This can result from problems with your reviews that don’t look natural, specific language in the page details you’ve entered, or problems in the images you have displayed – like displaying someone else’s trademarked logo on your page inappropriately.

Question by Scott D: How can I get Google to assist in a problem with a Google Places listing?
We have an edited Google Places listing that has been approved several weeks ago and we submitted it. But it’s not being seen in search results; rather, old listings are. We have tried to reach Google through the forums (asking questions) and also through their ‘report a problem’ features….not a word…not even sure they view/see these reported problems…I really want to update my Google Places listing, we’ve done everything by the book…who can help us?

    By pitching their music somewhere between the arena-friendly style of U2 and the mature pop/rock of bands like Maroon 5 and Counting Crows, the Fray rose to commercial prominence with their 2005 debut, How to Save a Life. The Denver-based band had formed three years prior, when former schoolmates Isaac Slade (vocals, piano) and Joe King (guitar, vocals) unexpectedly bumped into each other at a local music store. The pair began a series of two-man jam sessions and soon expanded their lineup with two of Slade's former bandmates, drummer Ben Wysocki and guitarist David Welsh. Slade's younger brother, Caleb, also joined the band for a stint but was ultimately asked to leave; the resulting rift between the two siblings would later inspire the band's first hit single, "Over My Head (Cable Car)." After issuing the Movement EP in 2002, the quartet gained the support of Denver's KTCL radio station with a follow-up release, 2003's Reason EP. As the Fray's airplay increased alongside their local profile (Westworld, a Denver alt. weekly publication, deemed them "Best New Band" in 2004), they began attracting attention from Epic Records. The label ultimately signed the band in December 2004, and the Fray toured alongside Weezer and Ben Folds the following summer.

    How to Save a Life was released in September 2005, and "Over My Head (Cable Car)" found a quick home on modern rock radio. By early 2006, it had crossed over to Top 40 chart status, peaking at number eight and whetting the public's appetite for another hit. The Fray responded by releasing the album's title track, which was heavily used in a promotional campaign for the TV series Grey's Anatomy and quickly became one of 2006's biggest singles. "How to Save a Life" was a world-wide smash, reaching the Top Ten in the U.S. (where it continued to chart for 58 consecutive weeks) and peaking at number one in Bulgaria, Ireland, Canada, and Spain. By the time the smoke had cleared, the Fray's debut had been certified double-platinum in the U.S. and was declared the best-selling digital album of all time.

    As How to Save a Life continued to enjoy world-wide chart success, the live album Live at the Electric Factory was released in selected independent stores in July 2006. The Fray re-released their Reason EP the following year while continuing to tour, occasionally playing new material at their high-profile shows. The band also found time to return to the recording studio, and 2009 saw the release of their self-titled sophomore effort, The Fray. ~ Andrew Leahey, All Music Guide

    About Scars on 45

    Making music was the furthest thing from Scars on 45's frontman/songwriter, Danny Bemrose's, mind until the professional soccer player for England's Huddersfield Town F.C. broke his foot at 21 and his world came crashing down. "I was in limbo, without knowing what to do with myself," he says. It wasn't the first time that fate would intervene in the band's formation.

    Danny put down the soccer ball and picked up for his father's guitar. "I'm quite an obsessive person. I became kind of addicted," he says. "I used to lock myself away to write songs and record on four-track recorder."

    Those early "recordings" eventually led to the creation of Scars on 45, a quintet from Bradford, England, that combines the gentle melodic intensity of Snow Patrol or Keane with the added allure of co-ed vocals, provided by Danny and fellow lead vocalist Aimee Driver. The self-produced "Give Me Something" EP is Scars on 45's first proper release and serves as an introduction to the band in advance of their forthcoming full length.

    Throughout the four-track collection, Danny and Aimee's voices weave around each other, creating not only beautiful harmonies but an added emotional dynamic to the storytelling found in the songs. Opening with the lilting, yet melancholic title track, the pair search for some sign–any sign–that there's a reason to believe in a lasting love. "Everyone's been in that situation of wanting someone and it not being reciprocated," Danny says. "It just rules your entire life."

    Other highlights on the "Give Me Something" EP include the propulsive "Loudest Alarm," a B-side from the album recording sessions, as well as a gentle, acoustic rendition of "Don't Say," another track that the band had originally recorded for the album (and perform live) in a grander, more fully orchestrated form. The melodic chorus of "The Way That We Are" is both fresh and at once comfortably familiar.

    Taking their name from an Emmylou Harris radio interview Danny had heard, Scars on 45 initially began as a trio made up of Bemrose, his football buddy/bassist Stuart Nichols, and keyboardist David "Nova" Nowakowski, with other members coming and going. Having no public performing experience, Amy was a friend of Nova's who originally came in to lay down some female vocal tracks for one of Danny's compositions. Her voice would become an integral element in the band's sound.

    Then began a series of joys, heartbreaks and near misses. The band, now expanded to a quintet with the addition of Chris on drums, placed songs on A&E's since-cancelled series, "The Cleaner," and came close to signing a record deal only to see it fall apart at the last moment. Then came the moment they had been waiting for: "CSI: New York" selected the group's song, "Beauty's Running Wild," for an extended closing scene. The music caught the attention of noted music supervisor, Alexandra Patsavas, who signed the band to her Atlantic Records-distributed label, Chop Shop Records.

    Although enjoyable, the studio is "the work part," Danny says whereas the real fun comes in playing live. "Just to be able to put yourself out there and let people know who you are is wonderful," he continues. "What I write about is who I am really. When people listen and react to one of your songs, there's no better feeling."

    Will Johnson (Centro-matic, South San Gabriel), Jay Farrar (Son Volt, Gob Iron, Uncle Tupelo), Yim Yames (My Morning Jacket, Monsters of Folk), and Anders Parker (Varnaline, Gob Iron) bring their collaborative Woody Guthrie tribute to the Crystal Ballroom in support of their new album, New Multitudes.

    An intimate interpretation of American icon and musical legend Woody Guthrie's previously unrecorded lyrics, New Multitudes will be released on February 28 on Rounder Records and is set to coincide with the centennial celebration of Woody Guthrie's birth year. The album will see a 12 track release as well as a 23 track deluxe, limited edition. The limited edition features original Guthrie lyric sheets, the 12 track release, and 11 additional compositions recorded by Farrar and Parker. The album will also be available on vinyl.

    Under the invitation of Nora Guthrie, Woody's daughter, to tour the Guthrie archives, each of the four songwriters were offered the chance to plumb and mine the plethora of notebooks, scratch pads, napkins, etc. for anything that might inspire them to lend their voices and give the words new life.

    "These guys worked on an amazing group of lyrics", says Nora. "Much of it culled from Woody's times in LA. Lyric wise, it's a part of the story that is still mostly unknown. From Woody's experiences on LA's skid row to his later years in Topanga Canyon, they are uniquely intimate, and relate two distinctly emotional periods in his life."

    About Sarah Jaffe

    If there is one thing that Sarah Jaffe will never have to contend with it is the idea that she is a female singer for females. There was once a time that being a female singer meant you would undoubtedly be put into an all too snug box. Is she an angry singer? An activist singer? A singer for the victims or the singer your mom bonds with you over? To be honest, when Sarah's new CD Suburban Nature was released on May 18th she inserted herself into and destroyed all those boxes simultaneously, because Sarah is a truth singer …and no matter who or what we are, we all need, and want, our singers to be truth singers. Jaffe's words and voice seam like they are speaking to you, only to you, yet they contain a universal appeal evidenced by the fact that she's recently toured with Midlake and Norah Jones. Two completely different audiences whom Jaffe, equally endearing and confident, easily won over.

    Growing up in Red Oak, Texas might not be ideal circumstances for breeding the kind of talent that is encompassed in Sarah's songs, but it does beg the question of nature verses nurture. What we have in us before we are even us, and what we interpret because of life circumstances. Writing since her early teens, many of the songs featured on Suburban Nature were written long before she could even enter the clubs were they are now performed.

    Interestingly enough the first single "Vulnerable," was written when Sarah was only 17, long before even the material on her first EP, the acclaimed Even Born Again, was produced. Even so, it comprises everything that matters about her voice. If there is one thread that flows through all of Sarah's work, it is grappling with the self-serving cycles that are in all of us, and the aftermath that those needs deal out. "I'm a fan of life's wicked ironies. These things that reveal the truth from an aerial view nowhere near your perspective of the situation, and through these realizations you find redemption." And so it is with Suburban Nature.

    From opening track "Before You Go," everything sounds as wide and deep as the Grand Canyon, the sonic spread covering every degree of the mix. It's thick enough to feel when you breathe, but spatial enough to allow for the one thing that truly matters with singer/songwriters: their voice. When talking to the albums producer and engineer John Congleton (St Vincent, Polyphonic Spree, Explosions in the Sky, Clinic) about the spacious feel of the album, he had this to say on the matter: "I think it was intentional. Both Sarah's and my feelings on this was that the vocal should be the focal point have as much space as possible, while the music provided an emotional backdrop."

    Skilled players such as Kris Youmans – cello (Bill Callahan, The Paper Chase, Micah P Hinson) Becki Howard – violin (The Crash That Took Me) Jeff Ryan – percussion (The Baptist Generals, St Vincent, Pleasant Grove) and Robert Gomez – guitar (as himself) provide this essential emotional backdrop. Just take a listen to "Pretender" for an example of the power and talent contained in this group of players. Layers of moveable music float in, out, under and over lines such as "So here we stand, like flowers in the cold, wilt and wither/Here's your chance/Tell me what you want/I'm a forgiver." In other situations the group provide the perfect backbeat so Sarah is free to spin yarn that might not always be fact, but like we said, is certainly truth.

    On "Clementine," she sings, "We were young, we were young, we were young, we didn't care." Although only 24 you actually believe her. You believe her because you believe that no matter what her actual age, she lived through the war of a relationship or fifty that aged her to her core, and now her soul speaks to yours in the places where you have aged, and set down roots that flow as grid in a suburb becoming part of your nature. This is why we need singers like Sarah Jaffe and albums like Suburban Nature: We need a truth singer to be a soothsayer, and help heal us in the broken places of our time.

    Since the release of Suburban Nature, Sarah has toured constantly, hitting both Europe and the US with Midlake, as well as supporting such varied artists as Norah Jones, Lou Barlow, Centro-matic and Old 97s. "Clementine" Sarah's debut single reached the #1 spot at various radio stations including Austin's influential KGSR and Sirus' Spectrum. Sarah and Suburban Nature landed in many 2010 "Best of Lists" including: Paste Magazine's 10 Best New Solo Artists, 50 Best Albums, and 50 Best Songs; Amazon.com's Best Albums and Song's; USA Today's Pop Candy 100 People of 2010.

    Sarah released The Way Sound Leaves a Room, a cd/dvd combo in Fall 2011. In early 2012, Sarah will release the follow up to Suburban Nature.
